Judith Shatin: Multiple Histories
Переглядів 55612 років тому
Many ingredients go into Judith Shatin's music. While it is informed by a deep sense of musical history, it is just as much a by-product of her profound desire to search for new sounds. It is also deeply inspired by history itself, but not as an artifact. Rather it is something that is malleable and very much alive, something that we in the present can continue to engage with to better understa...

Matthew Welch: Finding Ground in the Uncommon
Переглядів 92112 років тому
Welch's music is the by-product of an unlikely blend-Indonesian gamelan, Scottish bagpipes, and indie rock. While these types of music might initially seem completely unrelated, Welch has found his compositional voice in their common ground. Exponential: The Music of Zoë Keating
Переглядів 74412 років тому
When Zoë Keating takes the stage, her charismatic presence-a perfect balance of focused performer and welcoming MC-exerts a magnetic attraction. She is a composer who, with a chair, her cello, a bit of software, and some amplification, conjures an entire orchestra of sound out of the timbres of this one instrument. Singing Along with Pete Seeger at the Ceremonial!
Переглядів 60412 років тому
Perhaps the most unusual occurance at the 2012 Ceremonial of the American Academy of Arts and Letters was 93 year old Pete Seeger, recipient of the Academy's 2012 Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts, playing the guitar and banjo, singing, and getting many people in the audience as well as the art, literature, and music luminaries on stage to sing along with him . *ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHING! BEYOND COMPREHENSION TALENTED!*
Thank you, Ellen. Such a heartfelt and brilliant conversation. That painting of you and Joe is amazing, and has me crying. I look forward to seeing you in the near future. Stay well. Love, Laura
Janice Giteck is amazing!

When Charles Fox And Normal Gimbel Fans Music Salsa and Dance
I've spent the last six months or so, learning and obsessing over Mikel Rouse's music. The man is an underappreciated genius and albums like Dennis Cleveland, Failing Kansas, The End of Cinematics etc have some of the most ingenious musical compositions and concepts I've ever heard in music full stop.
Fresh Hersch is probably in my top 3 of pianists. His covers of ballads are so beautiful
Very nice interview and interesting concepts!
Great Fred!!!
I loved working with Barbara, and miss her here on this planet. A wonderful composer and musical colleague--and friend.
Those bare feet though at 6:50. Ick.
Beautiful talented woman.
You’re the best Fred !!
When I was a studying music at Ithaca College in the mid-seventies, I loved going to hear Mother Mallard in concert, always groundbreaking. Their contribution to 20th century music is huge.

Brilliant Composer, Performer, and Artist. Painfully Under Appreciated. Many Thanks for Showcasing His Talented Genius. Cheers!

despite her sublime and tremendous talent, she seems to be very down to earth....she is awesome!
Leo and miles got the same sound But I’m different ways !!
You always was 73 steps in the future of the hip hop. Beacause of that, you are Glitch Hop, the real one!!

Anyone know if she's Jewish...not that there's anything wrong with it.
4:03: That concert hall is hideous.
This video was posted in 2011. What an insightful and beautiful human being she had been since her childhood until that year already. I am eagerly looking to her comeback for the 2020-2021 musical season! 👌
Hi Rinde, nice to see you again! We met in 1982 at the rehursel for are are. I like to remember that. i still like your works very much. Best wishes from Manfred -Germany.
What a fucking genius.
Absolutely!
Rest in Peace, your fan.
Your daddy's child!!!
Effects, effects effects - - where's the music?! - I'd put actors with that music too -needs something to give it interest!!!
It radiates a Slav aura.
RIP Barbara. I can't remember all the concerts we played in together. You were a wonderful composer, musician and a good person to boot. I'll miss you.
What was she like? Just learning about her
@@Dedicated_.1 Very easy going, generous.

This is a nice video of a great artist but where are the names of the bassist and drummer? Looks like it might be Nasheet Waites and John Hebert ? Here is Fred Hersch talking about the great interaction between musicians and then they don't mention the musicians. The members of the trio should always be mentioned upfront.
Excellent Point.
Love this dude. Musical styles that he blends together with swagger hip hop. Homies an OG on the mpc
Sonic waterboarding. Painful and pointless.
So interesting, Ellen. Surely, I cannot say from where music comes, but I can say, personally, my initial reaction to music is biological. The mental follows.
priceless.
Congratulations on tap to American Academy of Arts and Letters.
The very best of new music. Rouse along with Neil Rolnick are true masters of electro acoustic music in America. Mason Bates is but a pale imitation.

Great Interview and Music!
Very interersting interview. I wasn't familiar with Will Redman before coming across this interview.
One of the most significant musical genius in this age.
thanks
Inspect her lips while she speaks. They are the shape of the Strati
I Love this Man's Music.
Love her and her music. :)
At age 14--60 years ago--I fell in love with Bartok's string quartets; been exploring ever since. Love your music! Also really like the visuals that accompany "The Eye Listens." Thank you!
